Urban Evo-Devo explores the nature of cities itself: is urban form a complex-adaptive system, and is its model of change demonstrably evolutionary? The research operates, therefore, within an ontological realm, rather than analogical. Recent morphometrics developments (Fleischmann et al., 2022) in urban morphology analysis have established a digital ecosystem that allows the generation of rich and comprehensive descriptions of urban forms over large geographical extents. The numerical, replicable and systematic data generated at large scale by such novel morphometric approaches in urban morphology, introduces the technical opportunity to bridge up to similar morphometric approaches that have long been established in life sciences.
